History and Evolution

Sometime in 2012, a group of us from Owo/Ose LGA got together and realized during reminiscence that we were losing grounds in all sectors of development indices – economic, social, political etc. our communities were visibly deteriorating - high youth unemployment, high rural urban migration, cults, lack of or decaying infrastructure.

On further interrogation we found we were being neglected by both State and federal governments, while there was no elite consensus as everyone seem to be minding himself; pulling in different directions most often opposite or conflicting.

We noticed that the marginalization was being aided by internal struggles for supremacy or recognition among the leadership. We then decided to build a platform with open membership access for all Ogho people as an advocacy group to work for the development of Ogho a sub ethnic group of the Yoruba race. We raised a lot of issues with the government of the State on the marginalization of Owo and Ose Local Government Areas.

It was in the process that we came to the conclusion that an Owo person getting the governorship position would not only be a symbol but also a means of redressing the several years of neglect and marginalization. This realization changed the trajectory of the Movement and we got into the arena of working to achieve the goal of an Owo person being governor.

This effort did not only yield the desired goal but gave the Movement more visibility and credibility that today Owo is One is among the most respected and sort out organizations in our area.

Today Owo is one Association stands as an organization for the socio/economic development, political advancement and for the promotion of peace, harmony and prosperity for the people and the communities making up Owo and Ose Local Government Areas.

To put some of our efforts and achievement in perspective, I like to enumerate some of our other activities apart from our active involvement in mobilization of grass root support at the gubernatorial elections:

  • Definition of a wish list for the communities in the two LGAs which was publicly presented to the governor by our Obas at a well attended forum in February 2017
  • Letter requesting improved power supply submitted to the Minister of Power
  • Letter to the Commissioner of Police on the security situation
  • Letter protesting the poor service from the Banks in the Area
  • Canvassing for sponsorship for Igogo festival and hosting youth participation with a stand at the Olowo’s Palace during the festival.
  • Interventions with FMC management to restore peace and canvass for improve service delivery at the centre.
  • Interventions with our Obas to promote cordial relationship
  • Interventions to stop inter communal clashes and promote harmony.
  • We sent congratulatory messages to those who have distinguished themselves in their calling or have been appointed into positions.
